What to do with Insomnia

As a society, we get far less sleep daily than we need to function. I know it’s not very often that I get a decent night of sleep. The amount of sleep that is enough varies from person to person and from age to age.

There are so many different reasons as to why, but the more common causes are:

· High levels of stress

· Eating too much late in the evening

· Depression or anxiety

· Pain

· Excessive worrying

· Grief or trauma

· Some medications

· Caffeine and/or alcoholic consumption

· Nicotine

As a result, we suffer from chronic fatigue, more instances of illnesses, poor concentration, irritability, and several other negative side effects. It affects your energy levels and mood, quality of life and also your health. If you’re like everyone else having trouble sleeping, you probably feel at a loss for what to do. The inability to fall asleep is a classic sign.

Some ways to help get to sleep

Good practices can help promote better sleeping habits. Here are a few things to try getting you sleeping more soundly.

  • Keep a consistent schedule every night.

  • Stay active- regular activity can tire you out for a good night’s sleep.

  • Avoid or limit caffeine and alcohol.

  • Avoid large meals or beverages right before bedtime.

  • Creating a relaxing bedtime ritual can help. (Warm bath, reading or listening to soft music, etc.)

  • Incorporate some breathing methods.

  • Use yoga or meditation to help relieve stress.

  • Limit your screen time right before bed!

  • Aromatherapy using essential oils used to promote relaxation

  • Get regular chiropractic adjustments.

  • Practice Journaling- especially helps when thoughts keep running in circles.

  • Adjust your sleeping position.

  • Discuss supplements with your physician that might aid in better sleep.

How can a chiropractor help?

Chiropractors focus on your spine, fixing any misalignments, and improving the spine’s overall health. They can also provide positive suggestions like which sleep positions are best for you to get a better night’s rest or if a chiropractic pillow can ease any of your pain. Adults aren’t the only ones who can benefit from a chiropractic adjustment. It’s likely that once your children are sleeping better, you’ll get some much-needed shuteye, too, right?

When receiving an adjustment, the pain and tension that builds up in the spine may be released, and the more comfortable the body is, the easier it is to relax and drift off to sleep. Remember, your body is made to run at optimum levels, and getting less sleep than is necessary for your body creates less functionality. The more efficient your body is, the easier for your body and mind to wind down and fall asleep.
