We’re at that time of year again we’re decorating the tree, hanging Christmas lights and shopping for presents is all the rage. However, sometimes amongst all the chaos, we forget to take care of ourselves. Most of the time we are just too busy over the holiday season to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us. Since all of the hustle and bustle if over it is important to make sure to take care of our bodies and to make it a top priority or at least it should be.

The different types of back pain

Pain serves an important purpose in warning us that there is something wrong with our bodies. Pain can vary depending on the situation and what caused it. It can vary from acute pain (short term) or chronic (long term). Acute pain can last a few days to a few weeks whereas chronic lasts for more than a few months. Ongoing pain can lead to worse health and can drastically affect one’s quality of life.

To protect your back and prevent back pain:

  • Regularly visit your chiropractor for adjustments.
  • Do back-strengthening and stretches at least twice a week.
  • When you stand or sit, make sure to use the correct posture.
  • If you can’t avoid heavy lifting, bend your knees and keep your back straight. If you can, have another person help you to avoid any possible back injuries or pain. Don’t overdo it!
  • Make sure you have enough room around you to lift carefully and safely.
  • Stay active, even if it means going for walks a few times a week.
  • Being overweight can cause further strain on your back muscles.
  • Watch a few back safety tips videos!
  • Push, don’t pull.
  • Try to avoid sudden, quick movements.
  • Keep objects you are lifting close to your body.
